    How to use a dildo- a cum-clusive guide for beginners

    How to use a dildo- a cum-clusive guide for beginners

    Eddie House |

    If you’ve already got a partner with a penis, you might wonder why you’d ever bother with the silicone experience. Similarly, you might be too in love with your current toy to want to trade in for penetration of the non vibrating kind. If you’ve never owned a toy, there’s always the question of “well what do I even do with it?”. I’m here to answer all those questions and more.

    Choosing A Dildo That Fits

    Unlike clothing, there is no “one size fits all” option for dildos. If you’re new to penetration in the orifice of your choosing, take the time to insert a finger or two to figure out what feels comfortable. You may want to start with a smaller dildo (under 5 inches) to take the time to work up to a bigger size. Most people prefer a dildo of around 6 inches (the average penis length is 5.2) but most of the vaginas nerve endings are only about 2-3 inches inside so length isn’t everything! You will also want to consider what material your toy is made of. Silicone is a standard option, with most dildos being made of this. When using this, silicone based lubricants shouldn’t be used as they can cause chemical reactions and erode your toy- water based lube is the way to go. Glass toys are becoming more and more popular, but if you’re a first timer you might want to consider other options as the toys are obviously rigid- great for precision and temperature play, but less great for someone who might not be able to take certain sizes.

    If you’re using your dildo for anal play, make sure it has a flared base. Please god make sure it has a flared base. The anus can act like a “vacuum” and there’s going to be nothing more off putting for a sexual experience than having to stop midway to have a nurse in A & E extract something from your asshole. If you want to be able to thrust and ride your dildo in a hands free experience, look for one designed with a suction cup base (perfect for sticking to the noticeboard in your hallway to hang your keys off. Or simply attaching to the shower wall).

    Another aspect to consider is realism or fantasy design. Do you want something that looks like a penis in a flesh tone with veins? Or do you want something that’s neon pink and smooth? Some dildos have veins, bumps, or ridges for a different internal feel and experience. Some have the ability to squirt fake cum- it all depends what you’re after from a sexual experience. There’s a dildo to suit every fantasy, need, or kink! (It might take a bit of trial and error. That’s okay. You wouldn’t decide the first ice cream flavour you try is automatically your favourite and dildos are the same in this respect.)

    Set The Mood

    Most importantly before we start, make sure you clean your dildo before and after each use. Dildos will accumulate dust, lint, or general debris over time no matter how they are stored. If your toy is non-motorised you can throw it in a pot of boiling water and be done (Dildo soup. Excellent). Otherwise, wipe it down with unscented warm soapy water. If you’re using it right away, just shake off the excess water and away you go. If it’s going back into storage, allow it to air dry first (don’t towel dry as it increases lint build up) and ensure it’s dry before putting away to discourage mould growth.

    Now you’ve got the boring bit out of the way, it’s time to begin the fun! Get yourself feeling sexy (music, lingerie, candles). Visual stimuli is popular and with the extent of the internet these days you can find any sort of video to put you in the mood. Lube is everyone's best friend. The wetter the better- it helps toys glide without catching or too much friction and eases penetrative play. If trying anal penetration, it’s even more important as the anus doesn’t produce any natural lubricant. As mentioned previously, consider the material of your toy when selecting a lubricant to ensure your toy is long lasting. If penetrative play is new to you or has previously been painful or uncomfortable in any way, it’s recommended to have a play with your genitals first and, if you can, either a penile or clitoral orgasm in order to relax your muscles ready for the main event.

    Let’s Try Penetration!

    So now you’re ready and warmed up, grab your lubricant and give your dildo a healthy coating of the stuff. This will help the toy glide rather than cause uncomfortable friction. Try some different positions- different ones can help you reach or stimulate different spots. Here’s some ideas of ways to penetrate yourself for pleasure;

    • Filled up: Taking the whole toy while you use either short thrusts, or leave yourself plugged up with the toy while using a vibe or fingers on the rest of your genitals.
    • Short, fast strokes: This is the preferred technique of many, increasing the speed of the strokes as you get closer to orgasm. This is great for hitting the G-spot inside your vagina (it’s only a few inches inside) but the repeated strokes can be tiring so make sure you switch hands to avoid wrist cramp!
    • G spot or P spot pleasure: Many dildos feature a curve perfect for finding that ball of nerves. Try glass toys for a firmer approach to pleasure.
    • Rotation: slowly turn your dildo whilst it’s inside of you, massaging yourself.
    • Add another toy! Cock rings, vibes, buttplugs, the list is endless. Double up for twice the fun.
